The MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation in the Free State, Mr. Dan Kgothule, announced that the term of office of Phakisa Major Sport Events and Development Corporation Board has expired. Consequently, a new board will be appointed in due course in line with section 5 of the Phakisa Major Events and Development Corporation Act, 1997 (Act No. 4 of 1997). MEC Kgothule will assume all the responsibilities of the board as from now until appointment of the new board.
A Notice for the nomination of the directors for the new board has already been issued for interested parties to be nominated.
The object of the Phakisa Major Sport Events and Development Corporation is to facilitate and promote the staging of sport events and sport development in the province. It is the considered view of MEC Kgothule that this role will be taken to the highest level with the appointment of the new board.
MEC Kgothule heartily thanks the outgoing members of the previous board for their commitment and support to the Corporation during their term of office. Their Contribution was valued.
